At least 11 people have been stabbed in what officials are calling a “random act” at a Walmart supermarket in Traverse City, Michigan. A suspect has been taken into custody.
The Attack and Victims
The incident took place near the checkout area. According to official reports, six of the 11 victims are currently in critical condition. Authorities stated that the weapon involved was a folding-style knife.
Swift Arrest of Suspect
The suspect, a Michigan resident, was captured within three minutes of the attack. Sheriff Michael Shea praised “citizen involvement” for the quick apprehension. The suspect was reportedly not previously known to police.
Ongoing Investigation
The Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation with assistance from the FBI. Governor Gretchen Whitmer has been briefed and expressed her support for the community. The public has been asked to avoid the area while authorities continue their work.
