A Guide to the Updated TVS Apache RTR 310: My Test Ride Impressions

I’ve always felt the TVS Apache RTR 310 was an underdog, a great bike held back by a few key issues like engine vibrations and short gearing. When TVS announced an update, I was eager to see if they’d addressed these points. They were so confident, they gave us a full day to test it on highways, village roads, and the CoASTT High Performance Centre track.

This is far more than a minor refresh. TVS has performed extensive rework on the engine, electronics, and gearing, transforming the bike’s character.

After putting it through its paces, I can say with confidence that TVS has done a commendable job of tackling this bike’s major pain-points.

⚙️ Engine and Electronics Overhaul

The 312.12-cc engine has received a major makeover with a lighter forged piston and a reworked DOHC cylinder-head. The result is a much more refined machine. The buzz from the handlebars is gone, though I did notice some vibrations through the seat above 5,000 rpm. It’s a significant improvement that makes the bike far more pleasant to ride.

The electronics suite is also updated, with five riding modes and a new launch control module. The cornering drag torque control works great to prevent rear-wheel lock-up during aggressive downshifting. This focus on improving user experience through technology is something I appreciate, whether it’s on a motorcycle or learning how to use AI as a personal assistant.

🏍️ Ride and Handling

The gearing has been revised to be taller, which I found gives the bike a slightly higher top speed (I saw 155 km/h) and makes it much better suited for touring. The fully adjustable 41-mm KYB forks and rear monoshock are perfectly tuned for spirited street riding right out of the box, soaking up rough patches with ease.

One of my favorite features, the bi-directional quick-shifter, is an absolute joy to use. It handled every aggressive shift I threw at it on the street and track without missing a single beat. The bike feels planted and goads you to ride faster, no matter the road surface.

🤔 My Final Verdict

The updated TVS Apache RTR 310 is now a bike that is very difficult to find fault with. With its well-balanced chassis, refined engine, and torque-rich performance, it’s a strong contender for anyone looking for a spirited street bike. With a starting price of ₹2.40 lakh (ex-showroom), it’s a package that’s hard to beat.
