According to a report from NewsNation, Kohberger has been tormented by inmates who shout at him through the prison’s air duct system and kick doors throughout the day and night, allegedly to deprive him of sleep. Chris McDonough, a retired homicide detective with the Cold Case Foundation, told the outlet that the inmates were “waiting for him” and are “basically torturing him through using psychology.”
In an August 13th statement to NewsNation, the Idaho Department of Corrections (IDOC) addressed the situation. “We are aware of Kohberger’s complaints about what he considers taunting,” the department confirmed, adding that “incarcerated individuals commonly communicate with each other in prison.”
The IDOC also noted, “Bryan Kohberger is housed alone in a cell, and IDOC security staff maintain a safe and orderly environment for all individuals in our custody.”
Kohberger was convicted for the murders of Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, Xana Kernodle, and Ethan Chapin.
