I’m here to walk you through a scary situation that unfolded in the heart of Manhattan. A normal evening commute turned into a scene of chaos when a gunman opened fire, and eyewitnesses shared what they saw.

👀 An Eyewitness Account
Matt, a colleague who has worked with us for over 20 years, was right there when it happened. He was walking to Grand Central to catch his train home around 6:20 p.m. when he noticed something was wrong.
“I had headphones on,” he said, “and all of a sudden people were running past me.” He took his headphones off and heard someone shout, “Gunshots, shooting!“
He turned back and saw police officers with their guns drawn. He immediately pulled out his phone and started recording video of the officers surrounding the Bank of America building near 51st Street. A few minutes later, he saw four officers carrying what looked like an injured officer to safety.
🚶 The Suspect in Broad Daylight
Our team saw two pictures of the suspect. Here’s how he was described:
- Appearance: A man in his late 30s or early 40s with black curly hair and dark sunglasses.
- Clothing: He was dressed in a blazer, a light-colored collared shirt, jeans, and sneakers.
- Weapon: He was carrying what was described as an AR-15, walking with purpose down Park Avenue.
He was seen walking through a busy area, a place normally filled with people heading home from work. The witness described an “intenseness on his face,” as if he was on his way to do something specific.
A Sobering Reminder
The eyewitness, Matt, shared a thought that I think is important for all of us. “I’ll never wear the headphones where it kind of muffles the sound ever again because you have to be alert,” he said. It’s a scary reminder that you have to be aware of your surroundings because you never know what might happen. He felt it was just luck that he had walked past the area moments before the gunman ran by.
