Welcome back, fishermen! The massive new update for Fisch has finally arrived, and after hunting down all nine Keystones, the real challenge begins. The ultimate goal of this update is to unlock a series of secret, interconnected caves that house new quests, rare fish, and the most powerful fishing rod the game has ever seen.
This guide is the second part of our update coverage, picking up right after you’ve collected all the Keystones. We will walk you through the entire process of unsealing the new areas, from placing the keys to completing the demanding quests required to claim the ultimate prize.
Step 1: Unsealing the First Gate – The Luminescent Cavern
With your collection of nine Keystones, your first task is to open the initial sealed cave. This will grant you access to the first of two new areas, the Luminescent Cavern.
### Navigating to the Cave Entrance
To begin, you need to sail towards the Desolate Deep biome. As you approach, look for a new cavernous path off to the right side. Navigate carefully through this passage, avoiding the floating sea mines, until you arrive at a large, cracked wall with three pedestals in front of it. This is where your Keystones will be used.
### The Randomized Keystone Puzzle
This is the most crucial step of the process: the three Keystones required to open the gate are
randomized for every player. You cannot simply look up a single combination. You must first approach the three pedestals and interact with them to see which specific Keystones
you need. Once you know which three are required, you can place them on the pedestals. After the third key is placed, the wall will crumble, granting you access to a stunning, blue-glowing cavern.
Step 2: The First Trial and a New Rod
As you explore the beautiful Luminescent Cavern, you’ll notice two key points of interest: a mysterious, inactive lever and a new, blue-themed fishing rod displayed on a rack. To acquire this rod, you must first complete the cavern’s unique Bestiary for a nearby NPC.
The Bestiary quest isn’t overly difficult, but it has a few specific requirements:
- Crab Cage Fish: Several of the required fish in this new area can only be caught using Crab Cages. Make sure you have plenty on hand and place them in different spots around the cavern.
- The Exotic Hunt: One specific fish on the list is an Exotic rarity that can only be obtained from a randomly spawning Hunt event within the cavern. Keep an eye out for a special audio cue and a glowing spot in the water to know when a Hunt has begun.
Once you’ve completed the Bestiary and caught the Exotic fish, you can claim the new blue rod. While it’s a decent piece of equipment, consider it a stepping stone, as the true prize lies deeper within.
Step 3: The Crimson Key – An Expensive Mutation
Your Exotic fish from the Hunt is the key to unlocking the second secret area, the Crimson Cavern. However, before you can use it, you must change its mutation to
Crimson.
This is accomplished using the Appraise system. You must take your Exotic fish to an Appraiser and repeatedly pay to reroll its mutation until you get the Crimson trait. Be warned: this process can be incredibly expensive. The cost is random, and it’s not uncommon for players to spend millions of in-game cash to get the correct mutation. Having the Appraise Game Pass can reduce the cost, but even with it, you should be prepared to spend a significant amount of money.
Step 4: Unlocking the Crimson Cavern
Once you have finally secured your Crimson-mutated Exotic fish, return to the Luminescent Cavern. You must give this specific fish to the NPC who gave you the Bestiary quest. Upon doing so, a cutscene will trigger, and a new, red-themed cave will open up deeper within the cavern system.
This is the Crimson Cavern, a visually stunning area with a menacing red glow. Inside, you’ll find a new set of challenges and the update’s ultimate rewards.
The Final Prize: The New Best Rod in the Game
Inside the Crimson Cavern, you will find a king-like NPC who will offer you a new quest to find several hidden fragments. More importantly, you will also see the game’s new best-in-slot fishing rod on display.
- Incredible Stats: This rod boasts some of the best stats in the entire game.
- High Price: It has a very high price tag, though it is slightly cheaper than the limited-time Polaris or Tryhard rods.
- The Ultimate Requirement: To even be allowed to purchase this rod, you must complete the full Bestiary for the entire “Sparkling” region (which includes both the Luminescent and Crimson Caverns). This is the true endgame grind of the update and will require a significant time investment.
