Grow A Garden – A Guide to the Dragonfly Pet

In the world of Grow a Garden, some pets are so powerful they can completely change the game for you. The Dragonfly is one of those pets. As the very first Divine-tier pet released in the game, it has one of the most sought-after abilities: the power to create Gold variants of your crops for free.

I was lucky enough to hatch one from a Bug Egg, and it has been a cornerstone of my farming strategy ever since. This guide will cover everything you need to know about this incredible pet.

✨ Appearance and Trivia

The Dragonfly has a stunning appearance befitting its Divine status. It’s a completely golden version of a real dragonfly, and its eyes, wing tips, and tail have a beautiful neon glow. It even uses the same texture as the Gold mutation, which is a fantastic thematic touch. Interestingly, its design is based on the real-life dragonfly, but it more closely resembles the prehistoric creature Meganeura.

A funny quirk I’ve noticed is that when you hold the Dragonfly, it hovers a few studs away from your hand near the ground. This is likely because its actual hitbox is at ground level, while its model is offset upwards to create the hovering effect.

💛 The Transmutation Trait

The Dragonfly’s true power lies in its single passive trait: Transmutation. Here’s how it works:

  • Every 5 minutes, the Dragonfly will fly to a random crop in your garden and turn its fruit into a Gold variant.
  • This ability is incredibly powerful for generating high-value crops without any effort on my part.
  • It’s important to note that the ability will not work on produce that already has a variant, including weaker ones like Silver.

The Dragonfly is one of only three pets in the game that can apply growth-variant mutations to plants, making it exceptionally rare and valuable. For more information on how mutations work, check out our guide on how to get crop mutations.

🥚 How to Obtain the Dragonfly

Getting a Dragonfly is a matter of luck, as it is the rarest pet to hatch from a Bug Egg. It has a very low hatch chance, which is what makes it so prized.

  • Obtaining Method: Hatched from a Bug Egg or an Exotic Bug Egg.
  • Hatch Chance: Only a 1% chance from either egg type.
  • Hunger: It has the highest hunger count in the game, at 100,000 points.
