Grow A Garden – A Guide to the Mimic Octopus Pet

In Grow a Garden, some of the most exciting pets are those with truly unique and game-changing abilities. The Mimic Octopus is a perfect example. Added during the Summer Harvest Event, this Mythical pet has the incredible ability to copy and use the abilities of your other pets. I was so excited when I finally hatched one, as its potential is nearly limitless.

This guide will cover the Mimic Octopus’s unique appearance, how its ‘Mimicry’ trait works, and its interesting history in the game.

🐙 Appearance

The Mimic Octopus has a very distinct, almost robotic look that I find really cool. It has a dark gray, cube-shaped head with square yellow eyes and a mischievous smile. It features six short, blocky tentacles, giving it a pixelated, retro-game feel. This unique design really makes it stand out from the more natural-looking pets in the game.

✨ The ‘Mimicry’ Trait

The true power of the Mimic Octopus lies in its passive ability, Mimicry. This trait makes it one of the most versatile and strategic pets you can own.

  • Every 20 minutes, it will mimic and copy an ability from another pet in your garden and then perform that ability itself.
  • If the pet it copies has two abilities, the Mimic Octopus will only perform the first one.
  • The copied pet’s own cooldown is not affected, so you’re essentially getting a free, extra activation of another pet’s skill.
  • Important: It cannot mimic the French Fry Ferret’s ability or the ability of another Mimic Octopus.

This ability allows for incredible combinations. I love using it to get a second chance at a rare mutation from my Dragonfly or to get another duplication from my Giant Ant.

🥚 How to Obtain the Mimic Octopus

The Mimic Octopus is the rarest pet from the Paradise Egg, making it a true prize for lucky players. Interestingly, despite its 1% hatch chance, its tier is Mythical, not Divine.

  • Obtaining Method: Hatched from a Paradise Egg.
  • Hatch Chance: 1%.
  • Tier: Mythical.
