The vast, treacherous Sands of Karac are nearly impossible to navigate without a map. Finding the cartographer, Shakra, here is one of the most challenging parkour sequences in the game. This guide provides the exact route, the required abilities, and what to do if you miss him.
Prerequisites: Essential Abilities
This path is designed for mid-game exploration. You must have these abilities:
- Cling Grip: Absolutely mandatory for grabbing onto specific ledges.
- Glide: Essential for crossing wide gaps.
- Double Jump (Highly Recommended): While perhaps not 100% mandatory, the platforming is extremely difficult without it. This guide assumes you have it.
The Parkour Path to Shakra
The journey begins to the left of the Blasted Steps. Prepare for a demanding sequence of timed jumps and grips.
- Starting Point: Exit into the Sands of Karac from the left side of the Blasted Steps.
- Initial Ledges: From the start, jump across and use your Cling Grip on a series of ledges moving left and upward. Manage your Silk meter; wait for it to recharge between grips if needed.
- First Major Glide: After scaling the initial cliffs, you’ll need to glide across a large gap to the next major platform.
- Timed Branch Puzzles: This is the hardest part. You will encounter platforms with branches that extend and retract on a timer.
- The first set is relatively simple, but the subsequent ones require precise timing and quick execution.
- Double Jump is crucial here for correcting mistakes and making the longer leaps between vanishing platforms.
- Enemy Encounters: The path is guarded by enemies. It is often safer to clear them out first rather than attempt the precise platforming under fire. Heal if necessary.
- Following the Chakra Rings: After completing the timed branch section, head upwards and into the next area. You will see environmental chakra rings—follow them. They lead directly to Shakra’s location on a secluded platform.
- Find Shakra: Talk to Shakra and purchase the Sands of Karac map using your collected Rosaries.
What to Do If Shakra is Not There
If you progressed through the area and returned to find the platform empty, Shakra has moved to his permanent, secondary shop location.
- Travel to Bellheart.
- Navigate to the very top of the main room in Bellheart.
- From the top, glide to the right-hand side of the room. You will find a ledge.
- Shakra will be there at his cart, and you can purchase the Sands of Karac map from him retroactively.
Pro Tips for Success
- Patience with Silk: The Cling Grip consumes Silk. Always wait a moment for it to recharge before attempting a long series of grips to avoid falling.
