It happens to the best of us! You’ve been captured and thrown into The Slab, a treacherous prison in Hollow Knight: Silksong. If you used the Bellway station to escape without your gear, you’ve found yourself without your signature Nail style and precious backpack space. Don’t panic—your equipment isn’t lost forever. This guide will walk you through exactly how to get it all back.

The Problem: You Escaped Without Your Gear
Upon being captured, all of your key equipment is confiscated and stored elsewhere in The Slab. Using the Bellway station to escape is a temporary solution, but it leaves you stranded without your vital tools. You must return and retrieve them manually.
The Solution: Re-Enter and Explore The Slab
You must go back into The Slab to recover your belongings. Thankfully, any Rosaries you had when captured are stored safely and won’t be lost if you die during your retrieval mission.
Step 1: Find the Two Keys
The path to your gear is locked behind two doors requiring keys. These keys are found within the initial, more accessible areas of The Slab.
- Where to Look: Thoroughly explore the rooms and platforms you can reach with your basic movement abilities (sprint, jump). The keys are often guarded by simple enemies or hidden in side passages.
- You Do NOT Need the Grapple: As confirmed by the community, the grapple ability is not required to find these first two keys. You can reach them using standard sprinting and well-executed triangle jumps (wall jumps).
Step 2: Navigate to the Arena
Once you have both keys, use them to unlock the corresponding doors. This will grant you access to a deeper section of the prison complex. Your goal is to find a specific arena-style room.
Step 3: reclaim Your Gear
Inside this arena, you will encounter a bug who acts as the jailer or warden of The Slab. This enemy is in possession of your Nail and Cowl (backpack).
- The Fight: Engage and defeat this jailer. The battle is designed to be manageable even without your primary weapon, often involving platforming or environmental puzzles.
- The Reward: Upon victory, your equipment will be restored immediately. You will regain your Nail combat style and all your backpack storage space.
What If You Already Left?
If you already used the Bellway and escaped The Slab without your gear, you must find another entrance to get back in. The original capture point likely serves as a permanent entrance. Return to the general area where you were captured to find your way back down into the prison and start the key-hunting process.
