Three Ways New Players Rage Quit
Getting Lost in the Early Game
The first area in Hollow Knight is the Forgotten Crossroads, and it is a test of patience, to say the least. New players often get lost in this maze-like wasteland. And since the atmosphere is so empty feeling, some of them think that this is all the game has to offer, so they never get to go to Green Path or the City of Tears. There are beautiful areas in the game, but the first area can rub new players the wrong way.
The Game Is Just Difficult
Look, maybe you got stuck on a boss or something. It’s not a crazy concept. I personally didn’t find this game to be that difficult, but keep in mind I’ve been playing 2D games my entire life. I still do encourage you that if you do get stuck, just look up a tutorial or something. You’re going to want to finish this game.
Losing All Your Geo
…is when they die to this and then die again on the way back to their shade without recovering their lost Geo. The sheer frustration of losing all your hard-earned currency, especially after a difficult fight or a long exploration run, is the most common and most devastating reason new players quit. It feels like a massive setback with no recourse, leading to a moment of peak frustration where many simply close the game.
