From my time exploring the world of inZOI, I’ve discovered there are a surprising number of ways for your Zois to meet their end. This guide, based on extensive in-game testing and community findings, covers all 17 death types currently in the game and how you can trigger them. Uncovering these secrets is part of the fun, much like finding a hidden quest in other games.

When a Zoi dies, a pop-up will appear, and they will be removed from the household. According to the source, Zois with bad karma may become ghosts, and you can hire a Soul Guide from the Pocket Market to summon and speak with them.
The 17 Current Death Types
Here is a breakdown of every way a Zoi can currently die in the game.
- Death by Natural Causes: Senior Zois can die at any time from old age. The city’s “Health Level” setting can influence this, and female Zois tend to live longer than males.
- Death by Fire: This can happen if a Zoi stands too close to an active fire for an extended period. Fires can be started from cooking mishaps or malfunctioning electronics.
- Death by Malnutrition: If a Zoi goes without food for two full days, they will die. A warning notification will appear when there are 12 hours left. (Note: Children are sent to a Child Protection Agency instead of dying).
- Death by Sleep Deprivation: Similar to starvation, a Zoi will die after two days without sleep. A final 12-hour warning will pop up. (Note: Children will simply faint instead of dying).
- Running Away Due to Lack of Recognition: This occurs when a Zoi’s “Recognition” need is empty for too long, causing them to become disheartened and leave. While not a death, the game’s code treats it as one, and other Zois will mourn them.
- Death by Overwork: A Zoi with very low or empty Energy can die if they continue to perform strenuous activities like working out.
- Death by Electrocution: This is a rare death that can occur from a failed electronic repair or while attempting to rob an ATM.
- Death by Traffic Accident: Zois can be killed if they are hit by a speeding vehicle. This is more likely if they are on a smaller vehicle like a scooter and collide with a car.
- Death by Falling: There is a small chance a Zoi will die from slipping on a wet floor, which can be caused by broken plumbing.
- Death by Food Poisoning: This can happen from eating or sniffing spoiled food. The Poison Doughnut from the Meow Store is a more reliable way to trigger this.
- Death by Anger: If a Zoi is in an “Enraged” emotional state, using too many mean social interactions can lead to their death.
- Death by Hypothermia: Occurs when a Zoi is exposed to freezing temperatures (around 0°C / 32°F) for over 30 minutes while wearing inappropriate clothing. A warning will appear before death.
- Death by Heatstroke: Happens when a Zoi is in hot weather (around 30°C / 86°F) for more than 30 minutes while wearing heavy clothing like a winter outfit. A warning will also appear.
Upcoming and Future Deaths
Based on game files and in-game hints, several more death types are planned for future updates.
- In-Progress Deaths: Drowning, Shark Attack, Jellyfish Attack, and Death by Lightning are all mentioned but currently in development. It is theorized that they will be triggered by things like swimming with low energy, entering shark-infested waters, or being outdoors during a heavy rain disaster.
- Unimplemented Deaths: The game’s code includes references to “Death by Embarrassment” and “Death by High Fever,” but these are not yet functional.
Debunked Deaths
While some players have discussed a “Death by Pollution,” the guide’s author found no evidence of this death type in the current game files.
