You might have heard that President Donald Trump is growing frustrated with Vladimir Putin. According to General Jack Keane, Trump’s patience has worn thin regarding the war in Ukraine, leading to a significant shift in his approach.
⏱️ A New Deadline and the Threat of Sanctions
President Trump is giving Russia a new deadline of ten to twelve days to agree to a deal with Ukraine. He’s frustrated by the lack of progress and the ongoing violence, noting that thousands of Russian and Ukrainian lives are being lost each week.
General Keane explains that this isn’t a bluff. Trump is now recognizing that his months of diplomacy have not worked. Putin has only escalated the conflict, often targeting civilians, hospitals, and schools, which are considered war crimes.
Because of this, Trump has changed his policy. He is now loading up Ukraine with necessary weapons and is preparing to implement secondary sanctions. These sanctions would target countries like China and India that are doing business with Russia, particularly buying its oil. This is a major change designed to put real pressure on Putin.
🕊️ What’s Happening with the Israel-Hamas Conflict?
The conversation also touched on the Israel-Hamas conflict. Trump places the blame for the stalled cease-fire deal squarely on Hamas, who he says has become “very difficult to deal with.” They are unwilling to release the final 20 hostages, believing they offer protection.
General Keane agrees, stating a deal isn’t likely soon. Hamas has rejected multiple offers, including one that would have allowed its leadership to go into exile. Meanwhile, the humanitarian situation in Gaza is severe, partly because Hamas is reportedly stealing aid meant for starving civilians. With negotiations stalled, Israel may have to return to fighting, which unfortunately increases the risk for the remaining hostages.
