Jeeps, Weasels, and Resilience
The Military Vehicle Preservation Association (MVPA) held its annual convention for the third time in Louisville, Kentucky, at the Kentucky Exposition Center. Despite a year of organizational changes and a special election for a new board, the show went on, bringing together collectors, vendors, and an impressive array of historic military vehicles for the public to enjoy.

A Jeep-Heavy Show
This year’s convention featured approximately 90 military vehicles, with a notable number of Jeeps on display. With 22 wartime Jeeps, two Ford GPAs, and a prototype Jeep tug, these iconic vehicles made up roughly 29% of the total, underscoring their enduring popularity and portability among collectors.

The Belle of the Ball: M29C Weasel
The standout vehicle of the show was arguably the 1945 Studebaker M29C “Weasel” owned by Patrick Sturges. This meticulously restored amphibious vehicle earned both a Gold – Master Class award and the prestigious Judges Choice award in the Factory class. Another sharp M29 Weasel, belonging to Doug McKee, also took home a Gold Veteran award.
Other Notable Vehicles and Displays
Beyond the Jeeps and Weasels, several other vehicles captured attendees’ attention. Two White half-tracks were on display, including a 1941 M2A1 that received a Bronze award. A personal favorite of the author was a 1943 Ford GTB, which took a Gold award in the Motorpool class. A unique highlight was the 1943 Willys MT-Tug owned by Dana Smith, a rare prototype with only about 20 ever made.
While smaller than in previous years, the 2025 MVPA convention was a success, proving that the heart of the hobby lies with the people and their shared passion. It was a fantastic opportunity for members to connect, share their knowledge, and display their wonderfully preserved pieces of history. All eyes are now on Virginia for the 2026 convention.
