I remember the controversy when KTM first launched the 390 Enduro R in India. Many riders, myself included, were disappointed that it used the suspension from the 390 Adventure S, which meant less travel than the international-spec model. While many found it satisfactory, the hardcore off-road community felt short-changed.

Well, KTM has listened. They have now launched the international-spec 390 Enduro R in India, and it’s specced up to give riders the full, intended off-roader experience. This is the bike for the select few who possess the skill to truly exploit a more hardcore suspension setup.
The Indian-spec version will continue to be on sale, but for those who demand the best, this new version is a more than welcome addition.
🏔️ The Suspension Upgrade
The main difference, and the entire point of this new version, is the upgraded suspension. I was thrilled to see it gets higher-specification WP suspension with a full 230 mm of travel at both the front and rear. This is a significant increase from the 200/205 mm of the Indian-spec model.
This increased travel has also resulted in higher ground clearance and a taller seat height, now at 277 mm and 895 mm respectively. These numbers mean business and are exactly what serious off-road riders have been asking for. It’s a clear example of a company responding to market feedback, a crucial process in any industry, including software development.
⚙️ What Stays the Same?
Aside from the suspension and the resulting changes in geometry, all other specifications of the 390 Enduro R remain unchanged. You still get the same potent engine, chassis, and electronics package that has made the 390 platform so popular.
This means it’s still a versatile machine, but now with a much higher ceiling for off-road performance. The decision to offer both versions is a smart one, as it caters to different rider skill levels and needs.
💰 Pricing and Final Thoughts
The new international-spec KTM 390 Enduro R is priced at ₹3.54 lakh (ex-showroom). This positions it as a premium, no-compromise option for the serious enthusiast. It’s not a bike for everyone; the tall seat height and hardcore suspension will be a challenge for some.
However, for the riders who have been waiting for the real deal, this is it. I applaud KTM for bringing this version to our shores. It shows a commitment to the enthusiast community and provides a genuine, high-performance option for those who want to push the limits of adventure riding.
