I’ve been keeping up with South Park for years, and whenever Towelie shows up, I know we’re in for something weird and funny. In the preview for the upcoming episode, he’s suddenly in Washington, which left me asking the same question: shouldn’t he still be back at Tegridy Farms with Randy?

When and Where to Watch
The new episode of South Park Season 27 airs on Wednesday, August 20 at 10/9c on Comedy Central. If you miss the live premiere, don’t worry—it will also be available the next day on Paramount+. That’s been the easiest way for me to catch up when I can’t tune in live.
Why Is Towelie in Washington?
That’s the big mystery this week. In past seasons, Towelie has mostly been tied to Randy’s Tegridy Farms storylines, so seeing him pop up in Washington feels intentional. My guess is that Trey and Matt are setting him up to play into a bigger political satire arc.
From my own experience watching South Park, the writers love using characters like Towelie as wild cards. He starts out as a goofy stoner towel, but over time, they’ve turned him into a stand-in for whatever commentary they want to make about society.
Concerns About the Storyline
I get why some fans are worried that the show might lean too heavily into “don’t forget your government is turning into Nazi Germany!” commentary. I’ve felt the same way at times—the sharpness of South Park’s satire can get diluted if it just becomes a recap of the week’s news.
But when Trey and Matt tie these ideas back into absurd storylines and character arcs (like Randy’s ridiculous marijuana empire), that’s when the show really shines. I’m hoping this Towelie-in-Washington setup is leading to something bigger than just a parody of current politics.
Why I’m Excited for This Episode
Towelie has always been my second favorite character, and whenever he’s involved, I know I’ll get a mix of stoner humor and unexpected commentary. Seeing him step outside of Tegridy Farms makes me think the writers are planning something fresh for him this season.
If you’re like me and want to keep up with everything South Park, it’s worth catching up through Paramount+.
