If you loved the first Grounded, I have some fantastic news for you. Grounded 2 is amazing, even in its early access stage. It’s packed with so much new content that it’ll keep you busy for at least 30 to 40 hours. That’s a huge leap from the original’s early access launch! I’ve spent that time exploring the story, finding secrets, and crafting, and I feel like I’ve just scratched the surface. It’s a sensational start, and it’s only going to get better.
🚀 What Are the Biggest Game-Changers?
The new features in Grounded 2 completely change how you play. The biggest addition? Buggies, your very own insect mounts! Riding an Ant Soldier or an Orb Weaver across the massive new map is an absolute thrill. Honestly, I could never go back to playing without them. It feels like pod racing, and it’s fantastic.
They also streamlined the experience with the new Omni-tool. This single tool replaces your axe, hammer, shovel, and wrench. It’s a godsend for your inventory space! You’ll upgrade it with Raw Science, and you’ll quickly wonder how you ever lived without it.
Combat has also seen a huge upgrade. The new dodge mechanic is a lifesaver. You can finally create builds around movement and agility, which feels so much better. They’ve also added new weapon archetypes like Rogue and Mage, giving you more ways to play without locking you into a specific class.
🤔 What’s Different or Missing This Time Around?
While the game is great, some things have been stripped back, which might surprise returning players. You can no longer find and change your Scabby UI colors. That was a small but beloved feature for many of us.
More importantly, character customization has taken a hit. Right now, the only way to get character skins is by purchasing the Founder’s Pack. I really hope they add free, unlockable skins in the future, as this has been a long-requested feature from the community.
Base building is mostly the same, but you won’t find mushroom bricks or cement just yet. Crafting stations and the smoothie system are also very similar to the first game. It feels like they played it safe here, and I’m hoping for more additions down the line.
🗺️ How Does the New Map Feel?
The new map is huge and absolutely gorgeous. Thanks to Unreal Engine 5, the lighting and environments are stunning. You’ll explore giant statues, speakers, and even a massive ice cream cart. The world feels teeming with life, and you feel even smaller than before.
There are tons of caves, labs, and dangerous biomes to discover. My only small gripe is that some areas could use a bit more loot to reward your exploration. Also, with a map this big, a compass on the screen would be a huge help!
🐞 Are the New Bugs A Big Threat?
You’ll run into plenty of new creatures! The scorpions and cockroaches are fantastic additions and will definitely keep you on your toes. The scorpion packs are a real challenge, and the cockroaches have a fight that will blow you away.
However, some of the new bugs, like the snail and caterpillar, are very passive and don’t put up a fight. It also feels like there’s a need for more variety, as you’ll be fighting a lot of spiderlings and mites. The devs have said more creatures are being reworked and will be added later, so I’m excited to see what’s next.
⭐ So, Should You Buy Grounded 2 Now?
Yes, absolutely. Even in early access, I’d give Grounded 2 a solid 8 out of 10. There is so much quality content here that it’s easily worth the price. The buggies, improved combat, and massive new world make for an incredible experience.
If you are a fan of the original, you will love this. If you’ve never played before, this is a perfect time to jump in. The game is off to a fantastic start, and I can’t wait to see where the developers take it next.
