Get ready to be hooked all over again. The iconic fisherman from *I Know What You Did Last Summer* is returning to terrorize a new generation, and this time, things are going to be much more brutal. Co-writer Sam Lansky promises that the new legacy sequel will not only honor the ’90s classic but will push everything “to the max.”

🔪 A Nastier, Scarier Villain
The team behind the new film made a conscious decision to reinvent the killer as a more terrifying force. “The Fisherman is not messing around,” Lansky emphasizes. He describes the new iteration as “nastier and scarier,” with kills that are more brutal than ever before. “That hook the Fisherman is working with this time is no joke. That hook is vicious!” he warns. The goal was to heighten the sense of threat and create a truly intimidating slasher.
👥 The Original Survivors Return
You can’t have a legacy sequel without the original heroes. Both Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. will reprise their roles as Julie James and Ray Bronson. Lansky says Hewitt was deeply committed to making sure the continuation did justice to her character and satisfied the fans who have grown with her over the years. The story will see the original survivors called upon to help a new group of friends who find themselves targeted by the hook-wielding killer a year after their own fatal accident.
🎬 Respecting the ’90s Golden Age
The creative team has a deep love for the original films and the golden age of ’90s teen horror. Lansky and director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson even took a research trip to the original filming locations in North Carolina to immerse themselves in the world. Their goal was to embrace the fun slasher tropes that audiences love while also subverting expectations to feel fresh and unpredictable. The result, Lansky hopes, is a “big, theatrical event where you grab your friends, get the popcorn, scream, laugh, and have the full experience”.
