Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro has confirmed that reports of an active shooter at Villanova University were unfounded. The governor described the event as a “cruel swatting incident,” which he defined as when someone calls in a fake threat to induce panic.
In response to the false alarm, Governor Shapiro has directed the Pennsylvania State Police to work with their partners to find those responsible. He stated they will “use every tool at our disposal” to find the perpetrator or perpetrators and hold them accountable for the illegal act of swatting.
Acknowledging the terror such events cause, Shapiro said, “I know today was every parent’s nightmare, and every student’s biggest fear.” He expressed profound gratitude that no one was hurt and thanked all members of law enforcement who responded to the reports of danger.
