When to Go: Liveaboard vs. Land-Based Resorts 🗺️
Many liveaboards stick to the November-March season because they need calm conditions to cross the Banda Sea. But that doesn’t mean the diving stops!
- Liveaboard Trips: These are perfect if you want to cover a lot of ground and see more of the region in a single trip. They generally operate from late October to early April.
- Land-Based Resorts: Resorts give you access to amazing dive sites even during the “off-season.” In fact, some habitats are at their best when liveaboards aren’t around.
Diving Conditions All Year ☀️
Raja Ampat’s tropical climate means warm air and water temperatures year-round. While the wettest months are January and February, they are also the most crowded.
- The Best Months: For great visibility and overall conditions, consider diving in March, April, August, and September. You can still find fantastic diving, even with stronger winds in August, by choosing dive sites that are sheltered by islands.
The amazing biodiversity of Raja Ampat is always there. You just have to choose the right time and location for the experience you want. Whether you choose a liveaboard or a land-based resort, you’re in for an unforgettable dive trip!
